Visiting the Elderly & Hospitalized

This is Mary. She suffers from crippling arthritis (among other health problems) and has been living in a nursing home since her 30’s. She’s as sharp as a tack, but she’s trapped in her own body and bedridden.

Mary has no family. Once or twice a week, Mary is visited by a girl from SDYP. Mary looks forward to her visit all week and her face lights up with excitement every time her visitor walks into her room. During their visits, Mary shares her life experiences, positive attitude, faith, and great sense of humor.

During Random Acts of Kindness Week (and beyond), we encourage you to visit someone elderly or hospitalized. There are so many lonely people just waiting for a friend.

Below are some places you can volunteer with, or simply call your nearest nursing home and see if they have any opportunities.
